Tech Support for Email Client:
  • Hi, I am using Outlook Express and beginning today, every time I try to send an email I get a message saying the email did not send. I get this message in the Task tab but when I click on the Error tab there is no error information to go on. The email actually gets sent because I sent one to myself and it came into my Inbox. Can you help.

  • From what you are describing it appears you may have a corrupted Sent box. OE is configured to save a copy of each Sent item you send, so when you click Send message it is trying to send the message AND then it tries to move the message to the Sent folder. Because the folder is damaged the message can not be moved thereby leaving the message in the Outbox and creating the message you see in the Tasks tab. Because there is no error created by your outgoing server or the recipients server there is no Error message.

To correct this issue you will need to find out where you Store Folder is located. You can find this in OE by clicking on Tools - Options - then the Maintenance Tab. Click on the button "Store Folder". Click in the long folder location and scroll all the way to the right so you can see and write down the entire folder string. Close out of Outlook Express. Next you will need to locate the folder on your hard drive. More than likely it is a "hidden" folder so you will need to "un-hide" the folder. Start off by opening a Windows Explorer window (right click on your Start button, then left click on "Explore"). Now click on "Tools" - "Folder Options". Next is to click the "View" tab at the top of this window. Then look in the "Advanced settings" window for "Show hidden files and folders". Click the circle to put the dot in it. Click OK to finish that screen.

Now, in the left hand column, drill down to your STORE FOLDER. Remember, that is the one you wrote down previously. It will look something like this, C:\Documents and Settings\~my computer~\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{53C0RKG2-9063-47G1-A6SB-20CBCC70D21F}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Once you have "drilled" down to that folder you need to rename the Sent file. Locate the file "sent.dbx". Place your mouse over it and press the right mouse button. Scroll down to "rename". Now change the name to something like sent.db0. Now open Outlook Express and click on Send/Receive. If everything has gone correctly your previous messages that are in the Outbox have sent, the Outbox is empty and the sent messages are in the newly created Sent folder.
